VIC Construction and Earthmoving Projects Update

Monash Freeway upgrade

To begin the New Year we have put together an update on planned and current major infrastructure projects across Victoria. This is to help you get an idea of what the market is doing and what projects you may be able to get involved with.

Western Distributor
Principal: Transurban, Victorian Government
Scope: The widening the West Gate Freeway from eight to 12 lanes between the M80 and Williamstown Road, digging a tunnel under Yarraville and constructing a second river crossing over the Maribyrnong. The project has progressed to exclusive negotiations between Transurban and the Victorian government.
Value: $5.5 billion


Monash Freeway Upgrade

Principal: Victorian Government
Scope: The widening of the Monash Freeway from four to five lanes between the EastLink interchange and South Gippsland Highway and from two to three lanes each way through to Clyde Road in Berwick. Geotechnical works have now begun on the project.
Value: $400 million


Ararat Wind Farm

Principal: Renewable Energy Systems
Scope: The construction of a wind farm consisting of 75 turbines. Construction has now begun.
Value: $450 million


The Terraces at Paddington

Principal: Presbyterian Aged Care
Scope: The construction of an over 55s community with facilities including a 100-bed residential aged care facility, a 23-bed dementia unit and 70 new seniors’ independent living units. Construction has now started.
Value: $180 million


Southbank Central

Principal: Central Equity
Scope: The construction of a 48-storey residential apartment tower in Melbourne containing 485 apartments. Brookfield Multiplex has been appointed the construction contractor.
Value: $130 million


Victorian Schools Public Private Partnership

Principal: Learning Communities Victoria Consortium
Scope: The construction of 15 new schools for Victoria. Construction has now started.
Value: $291 million


RACV Cape Schanck Resort Hotel and Conference Centre Redevelopment

Principal: RACV Club
Scope: The redevelopment of the RACV Resort, including a new hotel with 120 rooms, a conference centre and a 140-seat restaurant.
Value: $135 million


Wesley Upper Lonsdale Mixed Use Development

Principal: Charter Hall Holdings
Scope: The construction of a 33-storey building containing office, cultural and retail space.
Value: $100 million


Preston Market Redevelopment

Principal: Salta Properties and Medich Corporation
Scope: The construction of mixed use towers containing 1500 apartments, offices and entertainment as well as leisure spaces.
Value: $550 million


M80 Ring Road Upgrade Sunshine Avenue to Calder Freeway

Principal: VicRoads
Scope: The upgrade of the M80 Ring Road west of Keilor Park Drive to the Calder Freeway.
Value: $300 million


Crown Hotel and Apartment Tower

Principal: Schiavello
Scope: The construction of a 90-storey tower containing a six-star, 388-room luxury hotel and 680 luxury apartments.
Value: $1 billion


Melbourne Metro Rail Tunnel

Principal: Victorian Department of Economic Development, Jobs, Transport and Resources
Scope: The construction of two nine-kilometre underground rail tunnels in Melbourne along with associated infrastructure.
Value: $9 billion


Chandler Highway Bridge Expansion

Principal: VicRoads
Scope: The upgrade of the Chandler Highway bridge, including intersection upgrades and the installation of new traffic lights.
Value: $110 million


Kilmore-Wallan Bypass

Principal: VicRoads
Scope: The construction of a 13km bypass linking the Northern Highway with the Hume Freeway.
Value: $130 million
